A look at the sensitive and ingenious worlds of Varela

Exposing ourselves to art makes us more sensitive, more tolerant, and invites us to transcend and inspire us to become better human beings. Art is a channel used by the artist to transport us to a space where they share their world, their stories, their feelings, and their dreams; where an abstract concept materializes, becoming something tangible that the viewer can appreciate.

The great masters create their art in a language of their own. And the viewer engages in a dialogue with the essence of the discourse that underpins the artist's work. In the case of Fernando Varela, he subtly evokes sensorial elements. Throughout his various stages of life, he has managed to capture a legacy of transcendent works that convey his sensitive and spiritual vision of his surroundings. In this way, he manages to evoke feelings that allow the viewer to delve into his world of tireless pursuit of a positive evolution for our society.

Worlds: The Transits of Fernando Varela brings together a diverse range of works in which their distinctive shapes, colors, and lights capture our attention and allow us to dream, escape the rigidity of what we see, and transport us to the world created by the artist in his work. In this exhibition, we have the opportunity to appreciate, in a single place, his 40-year career of artistic expression. In it, Varela gives us a glimpse into the depths of his ingenious mind, taking us on a path of forms in which the interaction of colors provokes a spontaneous reaction of escape to the place created by the artist. Through them, we observe the evolution of a work destined to endure over time as it gains strength.

I have a deep affection for the maestro Fernando Varela. He is an extraordinary artist whom I respect and admire enormously, especially for the energy and passion he embodies in his works and for the high standards with which he creates them. Born in Uruguay, but Dominican by heart and soul, he is one of the most emblematic contemporary artists. His art reflects traits of his exquisite personality, which is extremely sensitive, tender, and deeply spiritual.

This contribution by the Centro León is a significant milestone for Dominican art. It is the manifestation of a firm and profound commitment to building a collective identity that elevates the spirit of an entire nation. The impeccable curatorship and museography of experiences like this, provided by the Centro León and its outstanding team, offer the opportunity to bring the transcendental work of our Great Masters to the public.

For us at Excel, it is a joy to be able to collaborate with this great initiative. This publication captures this important event, documenting it for our present and future generations. It is a testament to the efforts of Varela, the Centro León team, and the entire Excel team, in supporting the transformative power of art and, above all, of our Dominican artists. With this initiative, we demonstrate our passion and love for art, as well as our firm commitment to continue promoting cultural identity and its development in the country.
